weak spot 11.09.17 Veterans Day is a reminder to honor and celebrate U.S. military veterans for their service and sacrifice on this day and throughout the year. Part of honoring and supporting America s 19 million veterans 1 is ensuring they have access to high quality, affordable care to help them lead healthy lives at home. Veterans often face new and complex health challenges after returning from duty as a result of service-related injuries, disabilities, mental health disorders and chronic pain. 2 The Veterans Health Administration (VA) serves nearly 9 million veterans at more than 1,700 VA locations across the country. 3 But with demand for the VA s services often outstripping capacity, private facilities, such as CVS Health s MinuteClinic, are leaning in to help fill the gap. To help the VA meet a high demand for services, CVS Health s MinuteClinic developed a partnership with the VA in Phoenix to provide access to affordable health services for more than 120,000 veterans in the region at 24 MinuteClinic locations. MinuteClinic also worked with the VA in Northern California to help 60,000 veterans in that region access acute health care services. Through these partnerships, the VA can refer veterans to MinuteClinic for acute health services, like treatment for the flu or strep throat. If prescribed medications, patients can conveniently fill them at CVS Pharmacy. In addition, interconnected electronic health records help facilitate coordinated health services and reduce gaps in care. CVS Health is committed to helping ensure Americans have access to convenient, affordable, high-quality care, and partnering with a variety of stakeholders, including government agencies like the VA, to do so. We re proud to help support and expand access to health care for thousands of veterans through our convenient MinuteClinic locations.
