Naftifine topical is an antifungal medication. Naftifine topical prevents fungus from growing on your skin. Naftifine topical (for use on the skin) is used to treat skin infections such as athlete's foot, jock itch, and ringworm infections. This medicine is for use in adults and children who are at least 12 years old. Naftifine topical may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide. Tell each of your healthcare providers about all your medical conditions, allergies, and all medicines you use. What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before using naftifine topical? You should not use naftifine topical if you are allergic to it. It is not known whether naftifine topical will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication. It is not known whether naftifine topical passes into breast milk or if it could affect the nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding. Naftifine topical should not be used on a child younger than 12 years old. How should I use naftifine topical? Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not use this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Wash your hands before and after using this medication. Clean and dry the affected area. Apply the cream once daily, or the gel twice daily, as directed for the specified length of time. Use this medication for the full prescribed length of time. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared. Skipping doses may also increase your risk of further infection that is resistant to naftifine topical. If the infection does not clear up in 4 weeks, or if it appears to get worse, see your doctor. Do not use bandages or dressings that do not allow air circulation over the affected area (occlusive dressings) unless otherwise directed by your doctor. A light cotton-gauze dressing may be used to protect clothing. Avoid getting this medication in your eyes, nose, or mouth. Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. What happens if I miss a dose? Use the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up the missed dose. What happens if I overdose? An overdose of naftifine topical is not expected to be dangerous. Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222 if anyone has accidentally swallowed the medication. What should I avoid while using naftifine topical? Do not take this medicine by mouth. Naftifine topical is for use only on the skin. If this medicine gets in your eyes, nose, mouth, rectum, or vagina, rinse with water.
